Why This Site Exists
Three of my accounts were deleted. Nobody can do that here. Who I am, why I grow, and what you can expect from this site – and what you can't.
This site exists because I was deleted three times.
Not for insults, not for offering to sell anything, not over some deal. For growing tips. Three accounts, hundreds of short videos, years of collected knowledge – gone overnight each time, along with every question and answer that lived in the comments. So all of it now sits on a site of its own, on a server I pay for myself. No algorithm decides whether my knowledge still exists tomorrow. 🌱
Who's writing here
I'm 43, I live on the German coast, and I've been growing for about twenty years. I didn't start out of a fascination with plants, but for a very practical reason: whatever you don't have yourself, you have to get somewhere – and that's exactly where the problems start. Grow it yourself and you know precisely what you've got.
I live with a chronic illness. Three hours of work a day is my limit, less on bad days, and I have a registered disability rating of 70 per cent. Cannabis isn't recreation for me, it's how I keep my pain manageable. That's my personal experience and explicitly not a recommendation – what works for me doesn't have to mean anything for you, and that decision belongs between you and your doctor.
But that circumstance explains almost everything you'll find on this site. When a plant is your medicine, quality stops being a matter of taste. I can't just grab the next bag and hope for the best. I need to know what's in it, how it grew, and whether it'll turn out the same way it did last time. Which is why I've been chewing on the same question for years: how do I make the result repeatable ?
The legal frame this happens in
Worth saying up front, because there's plenty of nonsense about this online. Germany legalised home cultivation for adults in 2024, and these are the rules I grow under:
- I grow strictly for myself . Selling and passing it on are not permitted here, and I stick to that.
- Adults may keep up to three plants and 50 grams at home. Anything beyond that gets destroyed – even when it hurts.
- This site is 18+. There are no seeds here, no sourcing tips, no contacts and nothing for sale.
I'm not writing that as fine print. It's part of the story: this legal frame is the reason a site like this can be as open as it is.
The three deleted accounts
About two years ago I started making short videos. One tip per clip, thirty seconds, in German, straight from practice. It went better than I expected – at some point it was hundreds of clips and a whole lot of people watching regularly.
And then the account was gone. Then the next one. Then the one after that.
After that I needed a break. Not because I'd lost interest, but because I had to work out whether it made any sense to build on someone else's ground for the fourth time. During that stretch I just kept sharing my grows on YouTube, without much of a plan.
What brought me back were the comments. The questions that kept coming. People who tried something and reported back on how it went. New viewers turning up even though I'd stopped actively pushing anything. That's when I decided: keep going – but this time on ground of my own.
What you'll find here
Everything that's permanently at risk on a platform lives here for good:
- Guides on the things that actually decide your yield – climate, light, water. Not half-knowledge from forums, but what I've tested myself.
- Calculators that show you where you stand in thirty seconds: VPD, light (lux, PPFD and DLI), and what your grow costs you in electricity.
- Grow diaries – my own runs, written up, including the parts that go wrong. Especially those.
- Blog posts like this one, whenever there's something to tell.
And one topic that got a place of its own: BotanicBrain , the controller I'm building. It started for a very sober reason – on bad days I don't make it into the tent, and my plants need to survive that. It has grown into rather more since. The story is here: The Box That Talks Back.
What I want from you
Honestly? Your questions. I'd rather write a thorough answer to one specific question in the comments than put yet another general article online that already exists three hundred times over.
And if you grow yourself: write down what you do. Not for me – for you. The difference between a grow that happens to turn out well and one you can repeat is almost never better equipment. It's the note from last time.
Until then: thanks for being here. After three deleted accounts, a site where everything simply stays put feels pretty good.
